For years, university has been the go-to path for students across the UK – and for good reason! But in recent times, apprenticeships have started gaining popularity, especially with employers who value hands-on experience.
There are over 30,000 undergraduate degrees out there, which means plenty of choice if you decide university is right for you. It’s not just about getting a degree either – it’s a chance to grow personally, whether that’s learning to live independently, attending lectures, or building a whole new social life in a new place. With so many courses and universities, you can really dive into a subject you love.
That said, university isn’t for everyone. Some people find that the academic style doesn’t suit them, or they’re put off by the financial side – student loans and living costs can add up quickly.
On the flip side, apprenticeships are becoming a more popular alternative. While not as widely understood, they offer a brilliant opportunity to earn while you learn. If you’re looking for something equivalent to a university degree, you’ll want to look at Level 6 and 7 apprenticeships, also known as degree apprenticeships.
Here’s the best part: these apprenticeships mean you’ll be working for a company that actually sponsors your degree – paying your tuition and giving you a salary. It’s a real job, though, so you’ll be expected to work around 32 hours a week while also studying. It’s a challenge, but a rewarding one.
And while some people still think apprenticeships aren’t as valuable as a traditional degree, that’s changing fast. Many employers are starting to prefer candidates with real-world experience – and apprenticeships offer exactly that.
